National Hospitalist Day

Dear Cooper Team:

Please join us today, March 7, 2024, as we celebrate National Hospitalist Day.

Hospitalists, whose primary focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients, play a critical role at Cooper. They provide comprehensive care 24/7 during patients’ hospital stays, offer education to students and residents, and engage in leadership activities related to hospital medicine.

Hospital medicine was first founded at Cooper in 1998, as a section within the Division of General Internal Medicine. In 2007, a distinct Division of Hospital Medicine was established and has since grown to include more than 150 physicians and over 50 advanced practice providers. Last year, Cooper hospitalists managed more than 50,000 inpatient admissions across 11 sites.

Cooper’s hospitalists serve in a number of leadership, faculty, and committee roles within Cooper University Health Care and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Our Hospitalists serve as the program directors for the Internal Medicine Residency Programs for Cooper, Inspira Vineland, and Inspira Mullica Hill; provide bedside and didactic education as teaching faculty; and act as physician advisors for the care coordination and utilization management teams.

Thank you to our Hospitalist team for all that you do to drive quality and compassionate care for our patients, provide education for our learners, and foster a collaborative team-based culture of safety.
