Known as the “Festival of Colors,” Holi is one of the most popular and significant South Asian festivals. This annual ancient tradition marks the end of winter and honors the triumph of good over evil. This year, Holi was celebrated in South Asia on Monday, March 25, 2024, with bonfire festivities starting the night before.
Participants celebrate the arrival of spring by throwing colorful powders and water, eating sweets, and dancing to traditional music. The vibrant, joyous festival symbolizes new beginnings where people come together to play and laugh, forget and forgive, and mend broken relationships. Holi has gained significant popularity in many regions due to the millions of Indians and other South Asians living all over the world, with Holi events organized world-wide.
