This morning, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted full approval to Pfizer-BioNTech (Pfizer) COVID-19 vaccine. Out of more than 170 million people in the United States vaccinated against Covid-19, more than 92 million have received the Pfizer vaccine. Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is the first to receive full FDA approval.
A number of people were waiting until full approval by the FDA before getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock said today, “the FDA approval of a vaccine may now instill additional confidence to get vaccinated.”
If you have not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine, you can sign up today at the Kelemen Circle tent through myCooper. Please remember, the State of New Jersey has mandated that health care workers must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or be tested weekly starting the week of September 7, 2021.
Also note, the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is expected to get similar approval by the FDA in the near future and J&J will be applying for full approval later this year. Both the Moderna and J&J COVID-19 vaccines as well as Pfizer’s have proven effective in significantly reducing the risk of hospitalization and death from the virus.
