Congratulations to the Q3 and Q4 Good Catch Winners

Thank you to everyone who voted to determine our recent Good Catch winners. A “good catch” is a potential error that never reaches the patient because of identification by a team member. These can often be referred to as a near miss. These events are often the key to identifying system and process issues before errors have a chance to harm a patient, visitor, or team member.

Congratulations to our winners:

  • Q3: Shaye Springle-Deopp, RN, TSCU, who ensured a suicidal patient received a needed crisis evaluation. Click here to hear their story.
  • Q4: Nigel Trudge, CST, Operating Room, who noticed a “not sterile” sign on an instrument before it contaminated an entire procedure set-up. Click here to hear their story.

Have you had a good catch moment? Follow this link to file an EARS report (Cape team should use SOFI), submit your story here, or email the patient safety department at patientsafety@cooperhealth.edu.

Every quarter, Patient Safety nominates three Good Catch candidates. You can vote for your favorite candidate on Pulse+. Good Catch winners receive $100 and use of the Good Catch parking space in the CCIA garage for three months. All who vote are entered to win Pulse+ swag. Our two voting winners for Q3 and Q4 were Kelly Gale and Janet Zerno.
