Co-CEO Message – June 19, 2024

Dear Cooper Team:

We hope everyone is having a good week. Thank you for all you are doing to care for our patients, community, and each other.

What You Should Know This Week:

  • Today Is Juneteenth. Juneteenth, a national holiday, marks the end of the institution of slavery in the U.S. For photos and video of today’s celebration on our Camden Campus, click here. Cooper is hosting events at our locations and also sponsoring events in Camden and surrounding communities today and in coming days. Click here for the complete list.
  • It’s That Fun Time of Season Again – Annual Mandatory Education Has Begun. We know it’s as much fun as renewing your license at the DMV or holiday shopping, but the state and federal governments mandate it. We have made improvements, though. We reduced the number of modules reducing your time to complete. We made content specific to patient and non-patient facing roles. And we gave you 90 days to complete. Find the courses in the Cooper Learning Network (CLN) under “My Tasks.” The deadline to complete the courses is September 18, 2024.
  • Keleman 1 North Is Open. There is now a new dedicated area for Emergency Department patients who are waiting to be admitted to the hospital, creating a better experience for those patients. Kelemen 1 North is located on the first floor of the Kelemen building across from the elevators. For more information, click here.
  • #everyBODYmoves Campaign Update. Cooper continues to make strides this summer in implementing the Johns Hopkins Activity and Mobility Program. Recently, our team certified additional mobility advocates who will mentor other team members on best practices for promoting patient mobility on the hospital floors. Keep up the great work. • NEW! Patient Belongings Drop-off Spot. Effective Tuesday, June 25, 2024, we will transition to a new procedure when patient belongings are dropped off after business hours to improve security and convenience. After the close of business hours (currently after 5:30 p.m.), team members must call Cooper Security to coordinate a patient belongings drop-off. For more details, click here.
  • The Cooper Foundation Raised $115K for the Center for LGBTQ+ Health. The successful fundraising event celebrated the grand opening of the new Center for LGBTQ+ Health office in Collingswood, NJ. Congratulations to the team and The Cooper Foundation for a successful event. Click here to read more.
  • Pharmaceutical Drug Shortages. Drug shortages have become an increasingly pressing issue in the United States. At Cooper, the Pharmacy Department faces an average of 75 medication shortages daily. Despite these challenges, the pharmacy team has implemented strategies and tactics to mitigate disruptions in patient care. To learn how, click here.
  • This Week Is Risk Management Week. The week highlights the critical role that risk managers play across the health care enterprise. Health care risk professionals come from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds and are engaged in many aspects of health care. We thank our risk management team for their important work. To learn more about Cooper’s Risk Management team, click here.
