Dear Cooper Team:
We hope everyone is having a healthy, safe, and productive week. Thank you for all you do for our patients and each other.
What You Should Know This Week:
- The Cooper Innovation Center received a $100,000 grant from the Foundation for Health Advancement to study and develop a new body cavity evacuator used to drain fluid from the pleural space of the lungs. The device, which was invented and developed by Cooper thoracic surgeon David Shersher, MD, FACS, and Cooper pulmonologist Wissam Abouzgheib, MD, has the potential to provide a more effective, less invasive way to drain fluid from the body. - Vote for Cooper’s Q2 Good Catch Winner! A “Good Catch” is a potential error that never reaches the patient because of identification by one of our team members. To view this quarter’s nominees, click here. To vote for a Good Catch winner, click here.
- This Friday is GME Professionals Day. Thank you to all of our Cooper team members who are responsible for the daily operations of our Graduate Medical Education residency and fellowship programs. We look forward to a larger celebration planned for September 22! Stay tuned.
- Help us find new Cooper team members – and put extra money in your pocket. Cooper is offering referral and sign-on bonuses for several open positions. Click here to read more.
- Join Cooper for a screening of the HBO documentary Bleed Out on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. The film is a son’s video diary of his mother’s long ordeal following hip-replacement surgery and explores the challenges of American health care. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Cooper providers and the film’s writer/director and co-producer, a Q&A session, and a reception. CME credits are available to attendees. Reminders:
- We have seen an increase in cyber criminals attempting to gain access to Cooper’s system. Please remain vigilant. Criminals are using artificial intelligence to craft their attacks – particularly phishing attacks – to make them much more realistic and therefore more effective and harder to mitigate. If you see something that seems suspicious, immediately contact Cooper’s Help Desk and send an email to infosec@cooperhealth.edu or spam-alert@cooperhealth.edu.
- Cooper Surgery Center at Voorhees now offers real-time text message updates to loved ones and caregivers who accompany patients on the day of surgery. Patient companions will be able to receive automatic notifications when the patient enters the prep room, procedure room, and recovery area. For more information, click here.
- Nominate a team member today for the 2023 Armed Forces Person of the Year Award. To learn more about the award criteria and how you can submit a nomination, click here. The deadline for nominations is August 31, 2023.
- Mandatory education assignments are due September 6, 2023. This year’s training has been revamped to reduce the number of modules and make compliance with the law as efficient and effective as possible.
