Dear Cooper Team:
We hope you are having a safe and productive week and, for those who celebrate starting Thursday evening, a Happy Hanukkah. Thank you for all you are doing to keep our patients, community, and each other safe.
What You Should Know This Week:
- Cooper recently hosted a retirement ceremony for Colonel Kirby R. Gross, MD, FACS, following 21 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Army. Dr. Gross will remain on staff at Cooper as a trauma surgeon and an advisor to Cooper’s Section of Military, Diplomatic, and Field Surgical Affairs. Thank you, Dr. Gross, for your meritorious service and contributions to the military and medicine. To read more, click here.
- Congratulations to Justin Schweitzer, DO, Medical Director for Cooper’s Center for LGBTQ+ Health, for being named one of the Top LGBTQ+ Doctors in the nation by Castle Connolly, a physician-led directory of top doctors. Dr. Schweitzer was one of only 64 doctors in the nation to receive this distinction for his work to increase access of care to LGBTQ+ identifying patients in southern New Jersey. - Congratulations to Graceann Endicott, Director of Medical Education in Emergency Medicine, for receiving the Debra L. Dooley Graduate Medical Education Program Coordinator Excellence Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Thank you, Grace, for your unprecedented support of our residents and fellows over the years and helping them become successful physicians of the future. To learn more, click here.
- Grow your career with Cooper. Join us tomorrow, Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., to learn more about Cooper’s Critical Care Tech Internship Program. To learn more or to register, click here.
- National Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week. To learn more about these complex diseases and how Cooper’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center is providing patients with advanced treatments, education, and a full range of support services, click here.
- National Handwashing Awareness Week. Washing your hands frequently is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. For your area’s handwashing data, click here. For hand hygiene tips and information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, click here.
- ‘Tis the season for some holiday spirit! This year, we’re trying something new to spread holiday cheer by holding two contests: a holiday tree decorating contest and a snowman building contest for prizes. We look forward to seeing your posts on Pulse+! For more information, click here.
- Parking decals must be relocated. Anyone who parks at Cooper’s main campus in Camden must move their automatic vehicle identification tag, or parking window decal, to the top left corner of their windshield. This is on the driver’s side, just below where the oil change sticker reminder may be. For more information, click here.
- Secure your phone, don’t leave it alone. We are experiencing an increase in the theft of personal and Cooper-owned cell phones. For more information and tips on precautions you can take, click here.
- Not just nurses. Cooper nurses. Learn what sets Cooper nurses apart in our new Nurse Spotlight series. This week, we introduce Brittany Schumacher, BSN, RN. To find out why she became a nurse, what she loves about being a Cooper nurse, and more, click here. Visit Weekly Rounds, Pulse+, and Cooper’s social media accounts for more Nurse Spotlights.

We encourage you to walk with other team members when possible and stay aware of your surroundings. If other team members are not around, please call the Security Command Center at 856.342.2400 (add this number in your phone) and request a security escort.
