What You Should Know This Week:

  • Announcing Cooper’s Diversity Statement: As Cooper University Health Care seeks to realize its vision to be the best place to be a patient, the best place to work, and the best place to learn and practice medicine, we are committed to encouraging an inclusive environment where all team members feel valued, respected and a sense of belonging.   • Cooper recently became the first hospital in New Jersey to join the Radiation Injury Treatment Network (RITN), which is an elite group of medical organizations across the country prepared to respond to a radiological event. Hospitals in the RITN specialize in treating patients with bone marrow failure and acute radiation syndrome. To read more, click here.
  • Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma named Cooper’s Nicole Fox, MD, MPH, FACS its President-Elect for 2024. Congratulations, Nicole, as you lead and represent the region’s busiest trauma center on this important organization.
  • Congratulations to the Cooper Cardiac Surgery team for receiving the Healthgrades Five Star Award for Coronary Bypass Surgery for the third year in a row. To read more about this well-deserved recognition, click here.
  • Cooper nurses present at the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s 2023 Magnet/Pathway to Excellence Conference. Lisa Passero, MSN, RN, and Patrick Matlack, JD, MSN, RN, CNL, recently presented at the conference in Chicago, which welcomed 13,000 nurses from across the globe and from every state in the U.S. To read more about their presentation, click here.
  • Congratulations to the 2023 Pumpkin Decorating Contest Winners. Thank you to all the team members who participated in the annual contest. We enjoyed the many creative designs posted to Pulse+. To see the winning pumpkins, click here.
  • November is National Native American Heritage Month. During this month, we recognize the heritage, culture, and experiences of Indigenous people both historically and in American life today. To read more about this special month of recognition, click here.
  • Gratitude is the attitude. There are many benefits of practicing gratitude, both mental and physical. This holiday season, we are asking all Cooper team members to pause and reflect on positive things in their lives and share them with the greater Cooper community on our virtual gratitude wall. The wall is always active here.
  • Rachel Haroz, MD, FAACT, Head of Cooper’s Center for Healing, members of the Center’s team, and officials from Camden County, the Camden County Correctional Facility, and the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers, recently participated in a press event to announce the results of an innovative program to help treat incarcerated people with substance use disorders.   • Congratulations to all of Cooper’s “Top Docs.” The region’s leading magazines have recognized our physicians year-after-year for their hard work and dedication to patients and peers every day. To view our 2023 top docs, click here.
  • The Cooper Foundation was recently awarded a $50,000 grant from TD Bank to support a program that addresses societal barriers to health care access. To read more, click here.
  • Hospital Assault Response and Prevention (HARP) training program update. A total of 280 team members have received training since June 2023. The training includes assault safety best practices, de-escalation strategies, protect-exit skills, and management of volatile patients and visitors. HARP sessions are offered in person every Thursday. Register through the Cooper Learning Network (CLN).  For more information, click here.
  • Cooper Climbers Club challenge update.  The first challenge has ended. If you participated, please log onto the site here by the end of the day TODAY and enter the number of floors that you have climbed throughout the month. The top three climbers will win a prize. The next challenge begins today and ends on December 1, 2023. Sign up here.   • The Information Technology (IT) team has finalized a process that now allows all team members to download documents from Microsoft 365 to non-Cooper devices. This change grants you the flexibility to download work-related documents from your individual Cooper OneDrive or any Microsoft Teams space of which you are a member to any internet-connected device using your Cooper login credentials. For more information, click here.

  • Join Cooper’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team for the installation of three new Team Member Resource Groups on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the hospital conference center. To register, click here
  • Veterans Day Celebration. All Cooper team members with current or prior military service are encouraged to attend this year’s event on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the hospital conference center. To RSVP, click here.

  • Reminder: Well-being resources are available. Cooper’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Carebridge is available to you 24 hours a day (800.437.0911). Give them a call if you need to speak to someone if you are experiencing heightened stress, concern, or isolation for any reason.   • A Mindfulness Mystery. Each month, you will have the chance to listen to a new mystery mindfulness speaker. If you guess which Cooper team member is providing the mindfulness message that month, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a prize. To listen to the first speaker, click here.   • Holiday scrubs are back. During shifts that begin, end, or fall on holidays between now and January 2, 2024, wear your holiday-themed scrub tops with standard scrub pants. Remember to post your holiday scrub photos to Pulse+! For more information, click here.
  • Food Truck Fridays are back. Food trucks park between Sheridan Pavilion and MD Anderson at Cooper on our Camden campus every Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Check the food truck schedule here or on the home page of the Pulse, under Team Member Resources.
