Co-CEO Message – July 26, 2023

Dear Cooper Team:

We hope everyone is having a healthy and productive week. Thank you for all you do for our patients and each other.

What You Should Know This Week:

  • Congratulations, Dr. Baston. Governor Phil Murphy has nominated Dr. Kaitlan Baston to be the new Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health. Dr. Baston will be the first Cooper physician ever appointed to the highest public health position in the State of New Jersey. Congratulations are also in order for Dr. Rachel Haroz, who will replace Dr. Baston as head of Cooper’s Center for Healing. Click here for more information.
  • Last night, a patient and their visitor on Kelemen 9 made a FALSE report that another visitor had a firearm and threatened both of them. Upon investigation by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and Cooper’s Security team, and after careful review of security video, it was determined that the patient’s allegation was false. The accused visitor did not have a firearm while in the hospital. Additionally, the accused visitor never made a threat to the complaining patient, other patients, visitors, or Cooper team members. Video review confirmed that all visitor protocols were followed by Cooper team members and the accused visitor did not violate any rules. Camden Metro considered charging the patient for filing a false complaint. Many thanks to Cooper Security and the Camden County Sheriff’s Office for their detailed investigation and for keeping Cooper safe.
  • Cooper received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®– Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award in recognition of our commitment to providing the most appropriate stroke treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.
