Dear Cooper Team:
Thank you for everything you do every day for our patients and community.
What You Should Know This Week:
- Beginning Monday May 8, 2023, we will be updating our current masking policy. This is in response to decreasing transmission rates of COVID-19, the significant decrease in the proportion of COVID-19 positive patients who require hospitalization, and in line with guidance from the CDC and the New Jersey Department of Health. Click here for the masking changes.
- Cooper has earned its first-ever “A” hospital safety grade from Leapfrog. This is a great achievement, especially since Leapfrog methodology does not account for socioeconomic and acuity differences that negatively affect academic tertiary care health systems grades. What makes this success even more special is that it was our performance primarily during the height of the pandemic. During the most challenging time in health care, Cooper’s team rose to the occasion. Great work. To read more about this incredible accomplishment, click here.
- Cooper will begin sharing star ratings for all physicians and providers who treat patients in an ambulatory setting starting May 11, 2023. We are very proud of the work our providers do every day. This is another way to make it easier for patients to choose Cooper. For more information, click here.
- Thank you to Dr. Adam Elfant, the Adult Health Institute Gastroenterology Division, the Cooper Digestive Health Institute of Mount Laurel, and the Gastroenterology Special Testing Unit in Camden for their generous donation to the Ronald McDonald House Southern New Jersey, located next to Cooper. To read more about The Ronald McDonald House and its support of seriously ill children and their families, who travel great distances to receive life-saving care, click here. - The Cooper Foundation has received a $5 million pledge from The Bernard and Shirley Brown Charitable Foundation and The Brown Foundation to create the Edward D. Viner, MD, Chief of Medicine Endowment at Cooper. This gift represents the largest endowed gift in The Cooper Foundation’s history and establishes Cooper’s first endowed chief. - May is National Trauma Awareness Month. As the only Level I Trauma Center in the region, Cooper cares for the most severely injured patients. On average, we treat more than 4,600 trauma patients a year, making Cooper the busiest trauma center in New Jersey. Thank you to our incredible trauma team for the vital care you provide. - May is National Stroke Awareness Month. Cooper’s Stroke Program is certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification. - May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a commemoration of the culture, traditions, and history of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) people in the United States. During this month, help us celebrate and honor the achievements and contributions of people who are AAPI with pictures and stories on Pulse+.
- In recognition of National Nurses Week next week, a variety of activities are planned to celebrate our outstanding and dedicated nurses who provide expert care to our patients and their families. Click here for a full schedule of events – and share photos of you and your fellow nurses enjoying the festivities on Pulse+!
- At Cooper, we believe everyone should expect a safe, caring, and inclusive environment in all our spaces. Our Patient and Guest Code of Conduct helps us to meet this goal and applies to all patients, visitors, and accompanying family members. The Patient and Guest Code of Conduct can be found in patient admission packets, on general signage throughout our facilities, and on the Cooper website here.
- Beginning Monday, May 8, 2023, road work conducted by the City of Camden will affect access to the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University parking garage. Click here for more information.
